Winery
of the Week: The Winery SF - San Francisco
One
tends to associate the term wine county with wide-open spaces
and rural surroundings. But it seems, that notion may need to
be changed because The Winery SF is helping to turn San Francisco's
Treasure Island into a wine hot-spot. Sourcing fruit from California's
Northern Coast, they are producing some top-notch stuff, making
it well worth a visit to what might be considered "SF wine
country."

A bouquet of cherries, bramble berries, toasted clove,
and pine greets the senses. Flavors of black cherry, boysenberry,
and plum come together among notes of earth, toasty brown
spice, and herbs on the palate. Offering a nice acidity
and supple tannins, this will pair up well with a wild
mushroom risotto. Only 100 cases were made.

Aromas of cherries, blackberries, and plums play among
nuances of licorice, clove, and toasty oak on the nose.
Lots of black cherry, plum, and blackberry flavors come
forth on the palate, moving into suggestions of clove,
toasty oak, and vanilla. With plush tannins and fine balance,
it's a Zin to open when serving BBQ chicken.

A mix of strawberries, raspberries, and pomegranates combine
with hints of spice and cedar on the nose. With a sip,
flavors of plum, boysenberry, and raspberry interweave
among elements of smoky oak, spice, and herbs. The wine
is framed by a nice acidity and polished tannins, making
it ideal to serve with spicy chicken or pork tacos.

Waves of cherries, cassis, and cedar rise up from a glass.
On the palate, flavors of currant, blackberry, and black
cherry emerge, alongside expressions of cedar, licorice,
minerals. A good balance of tannins and flavors make this
a bottle to match with a lamb shank.

Aromatics of blackberries, cassis, and cherry meld with
allusions of spring flowers and anise on the nose. Blackberry,
currant, and dark cherry flavors come up front, unfolding
into notes of dark chocolate, rose petal, and licorice
on the palate. Nicely structured and layered, it's a classic
Napa Cab. Enjoy with a rib-eye steak.
