Embrace
the Italian Happy Hour This Holiday Season!
This
fall when you make plans to celebrate the season with friends
and family, add an unexpected twist to the usual gathering by
embracing the longtime ritual of the "aperitivo."
The aperitivo has been an Italian tradition for more than a
century, where friends and family mingle over cocktails and
enjoy light appetizers to stimulate their appetite before the
main meal that lies ahead.
The
"aperitif" refers to a drink enjoyed during the aperitivo.
The term aperitif comes from the Latin word aperire, translated
as "to open." And, an aperitif does just that- being
served before the meal, it opens the dining experience. It is
a cocktail typically low in alcohol, traditionally featuring
the world's number one-selling aperitif, Campari.
A versatile spirit made from the infusion of herbs, aromatic
plants, and fruit in alcohol and water, Campari
is celebrating its 150th anniversary this year and is the perfect
festive, red-hued addition to the fall and holiday menu.
Below
is a collection of Campari aperitif cocktails
from some of the best restaurants and notable mixologists in
San Francisco, New York and Los Angeles. The cocktails are accompanied
by a selection of light Italian appetizers meant to be enjoyed
during the aperitivo moment. Please let me know if you'd like
any high resolution images for any of these recipes or a sample
of Campari to mix up these festive drinks on
your own.
Cheers
and Happy Aperitivo!
