Belgium Brings Back Sour, Spice, and Everything Nice
By FBWorld Team
New
Belgium Brewing is releasing 2015's
La Folie and Transatlantique Kriek while reissuing
a new Cocoa Molé, offering an inventive mixture
of sour, sweet, heat and tradition. Two of these Lips of Faith
additions (Transatlantique Kriek and La Folie)
will remain out through the remainder of 2015 and Cocoa Molé
will be out while supplies last. Here's what our resident beer
connoisseur thought about all three:
Here's
a breakdown of the beers:

La
Folie 2015: Wood Aged Sour Ale
Nose:
Sour Ales are aged in wood barrels (in this case oak),
so its no surprise that it has a woody nose.
Taste:
On the the first sip, I was hit up front with immediate
tartness. After additional sips, you there were notes
of apple and cherry.
Finish:
It has a woody finish to it in my opinion but the finish
invites another sip.
Recommendation:
If you are not familiar with Sour Ales, I would recommend
trying a sample first. |

Transatlantique
Kriek:
Wood Aged Sour Cherry Ale - 2015 Lips Of Faith
Nose:
Tart cherries on the nose.
Taste:
Tart cherry that sweetens as it lingers.
Finish:
It has a nice crisp finish with a hint of tartness.
Recommendation:
Again, I would recommend trying a sample if you are unfamiliar
with Sour Ales. However, this is a more approachable introduction
to the Sour Beer family. |

Coco
Mole: Spiced Chocolate Porter - 2015 Lips Of Faith
Nose:
Cinnamon and chili spice.
Taste:
Caramel and chocolate sweetness are up front on the palate,
but as it lingers, the heat from the peppers builds.
Finish:
The heat continues to linger, along with some chocolate
notes.
Recommendation:
I would recommend warming up with a sample first. All
in all a good beer to cut through some of those lingering
cold nights. |
