Wines
of the Week: Whites of Rueda, Spain
By FBWorld Team
Long
considered favorites in Spain, Rueda wines are being
discovered by more and more people here in the United States.
Verdejo, the indigenous variety of the region, is fairly similar
to Sauvignon Blanc and, more often than not, is a very good
value.
Here
's what our tasting panel had to say about a few very reasonably
priced offerings from Rueda:

A bouquet of green apple, citrus fruits, and minerals
rises up from a glass. Favors of tart apple and lime are
accented by notes of minerals and herbs on the palate.
A crisp, clean , white, it's ideal for white fish or to
enjoy on a warm evening.

Review:
Aromas of citrus fruits and pear mingle with notes of
limestone and banana on the nose. The palate offers flavors
of lime, pineapple, and Asian pear with just a hint of
minerals. A light, clean wine that's very approachable,
fans of easygoing whites should give this a try. 15,000
cases produced.

Aromatics of tropical fruit, lime, and honeydew meld with
notes of sesame seeds and limestone. A sip delivers flavors
of kiwi, melon, and lime that unfold into nuances of minerals
and herbs. A supple white, with a lively mineral backbone,
it will compliment anything from salads to shrimp to light
pastas.
